Digital Desk: Bicol University College of Engineering students in Legazpi City was challenged to create their own headwear.

What is the most unusual approach to prevent exam cheating? Have you ever envisioned hats that seem like blinders or that remind you of Halloween? Images of students wearing various coloured and shaped hats are going viral in the Philippines. These were 'anti-cheating' headwear designed to keep students' eyes from wandering during tests.

To deter cheating during midterm exams, students at the Bicol University College of Engineering in Legazpi City were required to create their own headgear. Mary Joy Mandane-Ortiz, a faculty member at the university, had assigned the students the responsibility of designing their own hats with creative freedom. According to reports, she was inspired by a Thai university.

Ortiz shared photographs of her students on Facebook. Some of the students in the images are wearing helmets, while others are wearing huge hats and cardboard cartoon figures. One of the pupils was dressed as a cardboard minion, while others were dressed as egg boxes. Another appeared to be wearing his undergarments on his head.

"I truly love and [am] proud of my students because their engineering midterm exams can be difficult and stressful, but they managed to bring some colour and fun," Ortiz wrote in one of her photos. Students, thank you very much. You make me happy."

The photographs have gotten a lot of attention. While humorous, it remains to be seen whether inspiration will spread.
