Elections for ten Rajya Sabha seats will be conducted across three states on...

Digital Desk: Elections for ten Rajya Sabha seats will be conducted across three states on July 24. Bengal has the most seats, with six, followed by Gujarat with three and Goa with one.

Announcing the news, the Election Commission stated that the vote counting would take place on the same day. The nominations must be submitted by July 13.

In Bengal, the tenure of Derek O'Brien, Dola Sen, Pradip Bhattacharya, Sushmita Dev, Shanta Chhetri, and Sukhendu Shekhar Ray is coming to an end.  

In Gujarat, the terms of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Dinesh Jemalbhai Anavadia, and Lokhandwala Jugal Singh Mathurji are going to end.

Vinay Tendulkar is the outgoing MP from Goa.

The BJP won eight seats across four states in the last round of Rajya Sabha elections in July last year. The Congress retained three seats in Rajasthan and won one each in Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

The Election Commission also announced that a byelection for one Rajya Sabha seat in West Bengal would be held.
