Tinsukia, Assam – Five tea garden workers sustained injuries, two of them critical, following a severe head-on collision involving an ambulance and a Mahindra Bolero at the Samdang Bypass in Assam's Tinsukia district on Friday afternoon.
According to eyewitness accounts, the ambulance (AS-01-RC-5579) was transporting five patients from Khowang Tea Estate towards Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) when it was struck by a speeding Mahindra Bolero (AS-01-DG-2445) that was reportedly travelling from the Digboi side. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and created a scene of panic among local residents.
The injured individuals have been identified as Dhaneshwar Nayak from Talap Tea Estate, Binod Prasad and Sunil Nayak of Khowang Tea Estate, Somari Nayak from Talap Laina Tea Estate, and Babul Kisan of Anand Tea Estate. All are workers from the region's prominent tea gardens.
Hospital sources indicated that two of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving intensive medical care, while the other three sustained various degrees of injuries. Local residents were quick to assist with rescue efforts before emergency services arrived at the scene.
Residents of the area have expressed concern over the frequent accidents occurring on the Samdang Bypass, attributing the incidents to alleged reckless driving and insufficient safety measures. They have called for immediate precautionary steps to be implemented to enhance road safety along this stretch.
