GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam worsened further, with two children losing their lives and over 3.63 lakh people severely affected in the fury of flood across 17 districts.

Two minors perished in the floodwaters in Barpeta and Morigaon districts of the state on Monday.

The flood-affected districts are Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, West Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, and Tinsukia.

Lakhimpur remains to be the worst hit with more than 1.3 lakh people being affected, followed by Majuli and Darrang with around 65,000 and 41,300 people being affected, respectively.

A total of 950 villages are underwater and 30,333.36 hectares of cropland have been damaged across the state.

The respective district administrations have set up 44 relief camps and distribution centres, spread across 10 districts.

As many as 1,619 people, including 321 children, are taking shelter in these relief camps.

Rescue teams including State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have evacuated 470 persons, stuck in floodwaters across the state.

Massive erosions have been reported from Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Morigaon, Nalbari, and South Salmara districts.

Roads, bridges, and other infrastructure have also been damaged by floodwaters at several places.
As many as 2,56,144 domestic animals and poultry have been affected due to the floods.

The Brahmaputra is flowing in "above normal to severe flood situations" in Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sonitpur, Goalpara, Kamrup, and Dhubri districts.
