Kokrajhar police detained former MLA Hitesh Basumatary after discovering guns and ammunition at his apartment...

Digital Desk: On January 6, Kokrajhar police detained former MLA Hitesh Basumatary after discovering rifles and ammunition in his home.

During the search, police discovered one AK-47 and one M16 rifle in the former MLA's residence. Basumatary has been brought into police custody and is being questioned at the Kokrajhar Sadar police station.

Apart from Hitesh Basumatary, two more people are now being imprisoned in this case. Bodoland executive president Jatiya Saruksh Manch Daorao Deshreb Narzary and Bodoland Kontark organisation president Vikram Daimary have been detained at Kokrajhar Sadar police station.

According to Deshreb Narzary's family members, the Bodo political leader was detained by Kokrajhar police after breaching the wall through Narzary's property. However, the police have yet to provide an explanation for the arrest.

In addition, police detained Bodoland Contractors' Association president Bikram Daimary and BPF leader and former MLA Hitesh Basumatary overnight.

Although the police did not reveal any information, the deputy commissioner of police for the district and the extra deputy commissioner of police were observed visiting the police station.

This event has sparked controversy in the community, with family members of those jailed criticising the police participation as hasty and without explanation.
