Digital Desk: A deadly road accident on National Highway-6 at 12-Mile, Byrnihat, claimed one life and left two others seriously injured on Tuesday morning. The crash involved a Maruti Alto and a Toyota Innova and occurred at around 10:30 AM.

As per initial reports indicated that the Maruti Alto(ML-10-A-7094) was travelling from Byrnihat towards Umtyrnga at high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car swerved across the roadway and violently collided with an oncoming Toyota Innova (ML-10-S-0011), driven by 39-year-old Manish Kumar Jha, which was heading towards Byrnihat.

The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles. The Alto was carrying a single occupant and the passenger is identified as Helin Lyngdoh who was injured critically. Three people were travelling in the Innova, including the driver. Two passengers suffered serious injuries and were immediately transported to hospitals in Guwahati for urgent medical treatment.

Upon receiving information, personnel from the Byrnihat Police Outpost rushed to the accident site. An ambulance shifted Helin Lyngdoh to Byrnihat CHC, but doctors declared him dead on arrival, stating that he had succumbed to his injuries while being transported.

Police have taken up further investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, though initial findings point to overspeeding and loss of vehicle control as key factors. The fatal accident has raised the issue of the increasing road safety concerns along the NH-6 road again.
