Police reported that the incident was brought under control by security forces and personnel.

Digital Desk: New incidents of violence were reported in Manipur where at least two houses were set on fire and several rounds of bullets were fired in Imphal West district, officials said on Thursday.

As per the reports, the incident took place around 10 pm on Wednesday in New Keithelmanbi, next to the Patsoi police station.

As the accused fled the scene after the attack, triggering tension in the area, they added.

Police reported that the incident was brought under control by security forces and personnel.

After the incident, a group of Meitei women gathered in the vicinity, and the security officers prevented them from proceeding, according to them.

According to authorities, more security has been dispatched and the situation is now under control.

Since the ethnic clashes began in Manipur on May 3, when a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was arranged in the hill areas to oppose the Meitei community's desire for Scheduled Tribe designation, more than 180 people have died and hundreds have been injured.

The majority of Meiteis, who make up around 53% of Manipur's population, reside in the Imphal Valley. A little over 40% of the population are tribal people, mostly Nagas and Kukis, who live in the hill districts.
