Digital Desk: The president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and Member of Parliament (MP) Gaurav Gogoi, held a video call with Gungun Chetia to address the situation arising from the inhumane eviction carried out by the Assam government in Lakhimpur.
Gungun Chetia, a young woman who recently gained widespread attention through her emotional Facebook Live, expressed deep anguish as her family's agricultural crops were destroyed by the administration during an eviction drive.
During the conversation, MP Gogoi urged the family to remain patient and committed in the days ahead.
He further assured that the Congress party stands firmly with the affected individuals during this crisis and pledged to work towards preventing such unjust evictions from impacting other families in the future.
Following party directives, a team led by senior spokesperson and local Congress leader Dr. Jayprakash Das visited the family's residence on the evening of July 5 to gather detailed information about their unfortunate situation.
The recent eviction drive conducted in Lakhimpur district on Thursday aimed to clear approximately 78 acres of land allegedly encroached upon. As a result of the operation, around 220 families were severely affected.
