Digital Desk: More than a month after Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that deserving Assam Higher Secondary (HS) students would receive scooters, the Education Minister reveals the criteria.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu made it clear that HS students in both the boys and girls will receive scooters as part of the government's Pragyan Bharti Scheme.

According to the criteria provided by the education minister, all female students who receive first division (i.e., 60%) on their HS final examinations will be given scooters as promised.

However, scooters will be given as rewards to all boy pupils who receive 75% or higher.

Students have already brought up the issue of inappropriate gender-based criteria for honour roll student rewards, though.

The government has also not made it clear why there are different criteria for men and women.
