Strong winds of more than 120 kmph and heavy rains battered the state's Saurashtra and Kutch beaches as the storm made landfall.

Digital Desk: According to officials, the strong cyclonic storm Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat's coastal regions on Thursday evening, June 15, injuring at least 22 people and destroying electric poles and trees.

Furthermore, 23 animals were killed, while severe rains and high winds brought down over 524 trees and electric poles across Gujarat, knocking out power to over 940 communities.

According to officials, several relief and rescue teams have been activated, and tens of thousands of people have been evacuated to safe areas across Gujarat.

"The storm has injured approximately 22 people." So far, no fatalities have been reported. "23 animals have been killed, 524 trees have fallen, and electric poles have also fallen in some places, resulting in no electricity in 940 villages," stated Gujarat Relief Commissioner Alok Singh.

The storm's eye (approximately 50 km in diameter) will travel into India for a few hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
