Digital Desk: Unhappy with their daughter's love marriage, a couple and their two sons allegedly consumed poison, and the man and one of his sons died in Gujarat's Ahmedabad district on Wednesday, authorities said.

The family members chose to take extreme steps because they were dissatisfied with the man's daughter's decision to marry a man of her choosing from the Dalit group approximately a year ago, according to a Dholka police station official.

Kiran Rathod (52), his wife Neetaben (50), and their two sons Harsh (24) and Harshil (19) from Dholka town, he claims, consumed deadly chemical substances on Tuesday night in an attempt to kill themselves suicide.

According to him, the dad and his elder son died, while his wife and younger son survived and were being treated.

"When the neighbours learned about the incident, they called an ambulance and reported it to the police." Doctors at a private hospital declared the man and his elder son dead, while the lady and younger the child are being treated," an official added.

An FIR has been filed against 18 persons, including Rathod's daughter's in-laws, on accusations of abetment of suicide, he said, adding that an investigation is going on.
