The official claimed that the child was subjected to insulting and intimidating casteist comments with the objective of the Dalit community.

Digital Desk: According to police officials, villagers in Gujarat's Patan district allegedly attacked a Dalit man and severed his thumb after his nephew picked up a cricket ball during a game on a school playground on Sunday.

The incident happened when the teenager picked up the ball while watching a cricket game on the school playground in Kakoshi hamlet in the district. The defendant then became enraged and yelled at the youngster. The official claimed that the child was subjected to insulting and intimidating casteist comments with the objective of the Dalit community.

The issue was temporarily resolved, according to the official, when the boy's uncle Dhiraj Parmar objected to the remarks.

But later that night, the complainant, Dhiraj, and his brother Kirti were attacked by a group of seven guys carrying sharp weapons. According to the news service PTI, one of the culprits severed Kirti's thumb and gravely injured him.

According to the official, an FIR was filed under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act), section 506 of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act), section 326 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and other pertinent laws.

The accused are being sought after.
