Guwahati: The Guwahati  Press Club (GPC)  wrote an SOS letter to Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for setting up a vaccination camp in the city for journalist over 45 years of age. Later, GPC stated that journalist of all age group should be vaccinated as soon as possible.

GPC General Secretary Sanjay Ray said, “It is high time government should understand the importance of journalist who is playing an important in this time of crises.”

The letter said “In the last one year we have lost dozens of journalist due to the Covid-19, the latest being senior  journalist like Neelakshi Bhattacharya, Ayushman Dutta and Rohit Sardana.”

Moreover, the letter stated that it would be impossible to win the fight against the pandemic without the contribution of journalists and that the Guwahati  Press club is particularly willing to provide assistance to the government in organizing camps for journalist.

Further, GPC stated that journalists are no less than frontline warriors and should be vaccinated on priority.
