Digital Desk: Residents of Srimanta Nagar in Panjabari, Guwahati, are living in fear following a series of theft incidents that have rocked the area.

Thieves have reportedly been carrying out repeated burglaries in Sewali Path, particularly in Sub-Path No. 2. A few days ago, miscreants broke into a residence during the evening hours, smashed an almirah, and looted jewellery worth nearly Rs8 lakh. In a bizarre turn, the intruders also consumed fruits that had been kept on the dining table before fleeing the scene.

In another incident reported yesterday, burglars once again targeted a house in the same area. The residence of ASSEB Examination Controller Nayan Jyoti Sharma was broken into, and the thieves fled with gold jewellery belonging to his wife. The burglary also took place in the evening.

The repeated incidents have sparked strong resentment among local residents, who have expressed serious concern over what they describe as the indifferent response of the Satgaon Police to the rising theft cases in the area.
