The incident highlights the urgent need for proactive measures to address climate change and mitigate its impact...

Digital Desk: Imphal, the bustling capital city of Manipur, was ravaged by a severe hailstorm on Sunday, wreaking havoc on its infrastructure and agricultural lands. Occurring around 1400 hours, the storm left a trail of destruction, leaving residents grappling with the aftermath.

The calamity prompted one concerned citizen to voice their problems on social media platform 'X', highlighting the underlying causes of such extreme weather possibilities. They attributed the phenomenon to the adverse effects of climate change exacerbated by illegal activities, notably deforestation for poppy cultivation and unauthorized settlements by migrants.

Taking to X, a user wrote, "This hailstorm in Manipur today is a stark manifestation of climate change." "Illegal migrants clearing forests for poppy plantations and establishing random habitation centers have intensified environmental degradation, making such once-rare hailstorms increasingly common."

The incident highlights the urgent need for proactive measures to address climate change and mitigate its impact on vulnerable regions like Manipur.
