Moriagaon: A murderer was apprehended by the police within hours of his committing the crime in the Mayang area under Morigaon district last night.

Hemanta Mandal, 35-years-old, son of Rabindranath Mandal of Vill Jhargaon, PS Mayang, Morigaon, was found in an unconscious state with a severe head injury in his garage near Digaru Chariali.

As per preliminary reports, the Sonapur PS staff immediately reached and recovered the victim after receiving a call from the 108 services, and was immediately shifted to District Hospital Sonapur, where the duty doctor declared him brought dead.

On further investigation by the Police, it was revealed that the culprit was the night security guard of the garage, Rakesh Karmakar, 26-years-old, son of Jeju Karmakar, who lives in Vill No 2 Barbara.

The culprit had assaulted the Hemanta with a hammer, because of which he succumbed to his injuries. The accused Rajesh was apprehended, and the murder weapon was also recovered. An Inquest was conducted over the body and sent to GMCH for Post Mortem examination.

During questioning, the accused claimed that he had been frequently insulted by the deceased and confessed to committing the crime. An FIR has been lodged by the father of the deceased and accordingly, Sonapur PS Case No 574/2021; U/s- 302 IPC registered.

Necessary legal action is continuing.
