Digital Desk: After hours of speculation and nearly resigning with a torn resignation letter surfacing online, Manipur's Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, clarified on Friday that he will not resign from the post.

"At this crucial juncture, I wish to clarify that I will not be resigning from the post of Chief Minister," N Biren Singh said in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, protests erupted on Manipur streets after reports of chief minister N Biren Singh's scheduled meeting with the governor to offer his resignation came to light on Friday. Hundreds of women hit the road in Imphal in support of CM Singh and raised anti-resignation slogans. "We will not let him resign," the protesters shouted as Singh prepared to leave his home to meet the State Governor. Videos of the protest have surfaced on the internet.

According to reports, one of the supporters tore the resignation letter and prevented him from meeting the Governor. Images of the torn letter have gone viral.
