Digital Desk: The Iceland Cricket has gone viral with a humorous post on X, announcing that it would be “unavailable” to replace Pakistan in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup due to a lack of preparation time.

In the satirical statement, Iceland Cricket said the short notice made it impossible for the team to prepare in a professional manner, joking that they are “not like Scotland” and cannot simply turn up for a global event on a whim. The post highlighted the realities of amateur cricket, noting that players come from diverse professions and cannot abandon their jobs at short notice.

The statement humorously mentioned that the team’s captain is a professional baker who must tend to his oven, while other players include a ship captain and bankers. It added that Iceland Cricket, despite being from “the most peaceful nation on Earth,” boasts one of the most-followed national cricket boards on X.

The post came amid reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering withdrawing from the T20 World Cup in solidarity with Bangladesh, which earlier pulled out of the tournament citing security concerns in India. Scotland had reportedly replaced Bangladesh in the event.

Iceland Cricket concluded the post by wishing Uganda well, suggesting that their absence could prove beneficial for the African side, while signing off with its trademark dry humour.

The witty statement has been widely shared online, drawing laughter and praise from cricket fans across the world.
