The ICC has confirmed that the 2026 T20 World Cup will be held from 7th February to 8th March
Digital Desk: Rohit Sharma, who led India to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2024 before retiring from the format, was officially named the Tournament Ambassador for the 2026 edition, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The announcement was made today, adding another prestigious milestone to the legendary cricketer’s career.
Rohit finished his T20I journey as one of India’s most prolific batters, amassing 4,231 runs at an average of 32.01 and a strike rate of 140.89, cementing his status as one of the greatest players in the format’s history.
The ICC has confirmed that the 2026 T20 World Cup will be held from 7th February to 8th March , featuring matches across eight venues in India and Sri Lanka. ICC chairman Jay Shah revealed the venue list during the schedule announcement event held in Kolkata today.
In India, matches will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi), Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad), M. A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai), Eden Gardens (Kolkata) and Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai). Sri Lanka will host games at the R. Premadasa Stadium and Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, along with the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
Notably, Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has been excluded from the venue list. The decision comes despite the stadium recently reopening after a prolonged suspension following the tragic stampede in June.
With Rohit Sharma taking on the ambassadorial role and the venues finalized, preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup are now firmly underway, promising a landmark edition of the tournament.
