India’s response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 tourists, was measured and non-escalatory
Digital Desk: The Indian Embassy in Indonesia has clarified that recent media reports have given a wrong picture and quoted out of context the words of Defence Attache Captain Shiv Kumar, who had given a seminar at an Indonesian university on the Operation Sindoor.
In a formal announcement posted on X (previously Twitter), the embassy said :
“We have seen media reports regarding a presentation made by the Defence Attache at a seminar. His remarks have been quoted out of context, and the reports are a misrepresentation of the intention and thrust of the presentation.”
Captain Kumar had explained the Indian operation in the first phase of Operation Sindoor where he had pointed out that the purpose of carrying out their operation was to destroy terrorist infrastructure deep inside Pakistan. He further showed that the reaction of India to the terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir was not that of escalation.
The embassy also said that the presentation highlighted one of the fundamental differences that exist between India and certain neighbouring states:-
The politics of the Indian armed forces is under the control of civilians.
However, the remarks sparked criticism from the Opposition Congress party, which accused the BJP-led government of misleading the nation.
Leader of Congress Jairam Ramesh tweeted on X:
“First the Chief of Defence Staff makes important revelations in Singapore. Then a senior defence official follows up from Indonesia. But why is the PM refusing to preside over an all-party meeting and take the Opposition into confidence? Why has the demand for a special session of Parliament been rejected?”
A full investigation or political resolution has yet to be announced, and additional clarification might take place in the upcoming days.
