"Signing off from the mat! Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey. Onto the next chapter" Dipa Karmakar announced her official retirement with a heavy heart.

Digital Desk: Renowned 31-year-old Indian Olympian gymnast Dipa Karmakar with a heartfelt social media post expressed her decision to put an end to the 25-year-long journey. Karmakar said that due to physical constraints, she can't keep up with what the sport demands.

The Padma Shri recipient was known for her remarkable 2016 Rio Olympics games as the first Indian female gymnast to compete in the Olympics. In the 2018, FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin, Turkey, she bagged the gold medal being the first Indian Gymnast to win in a global event.

"Even though I'm getting retired, my connection with gymnastics will never end. I wish I could return something to this sport maybe as a mentor or coach, so that I can support many other girls like me who thrive to be a part of it." Karmakar mentioned this as she announced her retirement through an Instagram post thanking each and everyone who was a part of her journey.
