Kohli joins an elite club alongside David Warner (3 times) and Chris Gayle (2 times) as one of the few players to secure the Orange Cap multiple times in IPL history

Digital Desk: While RCB's quest for the title may have stretched, Virat Kohli has etched his name into IPL history with a remarkable achievement. The esteemed batsman has now clinched the Orange Cap, awarded to the season's highest run-scorer, on more than one occasion, a feat previously unattained by any Indian player. Kohli's stellar performance saw him amass a total of 741 runs across 15 matches, showcasing his prowess with the bat throughout the season.

Furthermore, Kohli joins an elite club alongside David Warner (3 times) and Chris Gayle (2 times) as one of the few players to secure the Orange Cap multiple times in IPL history. His exceptional form was highlighted by a century and five half-centuries during the season. Although RCB advanced to the playoffs by surpassing the five-time champion CSK, they were ultimately defeated in the Eliminator by Rajasthan earlier in the week.

Notably, Kohli had previously claimed the Orange Cap in 2016 with a staggering tally of 973 runs, a record that still stands in the IPL. Ruturaj Gaikwad from CSK trailed in second place with 583 runs, while Rajasthan's Riyan Parag secured the third position with 573 runs in 16 matches, emerging as the only uncapped player among the top five.

The Orange Cap leaderboard for IPL 2024 stands as follows:

  • Virat Kohli: 741 runs in 15 matches
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad: 583 runs in 14 matches
  • Riyan Parag: 573 runs in 16 matches
  • Travis Head: 567 runs in 15 matches
  • Sanju Samson: 531 runs in 16 matches

Kohli's stellar performance in IPL 2024 not only silenced critics questioning his strike rate but also served as a resounding statement ahead of the T20 World Cup. With a striking rate of 154.69, he dominated opposition bowlers, showcasing his prowess in the powerplay overs.

As India gears up for the T20 World Cup commencing on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies, Kohli's outstanding IPL form positions him as a key asset for the national team, hoping to replicate his success on the global stage.
