The top two teams of the league stage demonstrated their supremacy in the playoffs to secure berths in the IPL 2024 mega finale.

Digital Desk: Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) aggressive batting approach seemed to have misfired on the grandest stage of them all. Mitchell Starc claimed two of the three wickets that SRH lost in the powerplay, with another falling in the 10th over, followed by the pivotal dismissal of Aiden Markram by Andre Russell in the 11th.

The top two teams of the league stage demonstrated their supremacy in the playoffs to secure berths in the IPL 2024 mega finale. Kolkata Knight Riders, the two-time champions, maintained simplicity throughout the season, playing a cohesive brand of cricket that yielded consistent results. Conversely, Sunrisers showcased a fearless style, setting record-breaking scores multiple times, defining a new standard in IPL cricket.

However, the final presents a distinct challenge, as both teams feel the pressure to add another trophy to their collection. While they have experienced players in their ranks to provide guidance and composure, the dynamics change once they step onto the field.

Prior to the season's commencement, eyebrows were raised over KKR and SRH's hefty spending on Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, respectively, in the IPL auction. Critics and fans questioned the rationale behind investing over 20 crore each in the Australian pacers. Yet, their on-field performances silenced doubters. Starc initially struggled to find his rhythm but delivered a stellar performance with the ball in Qualifier 1 when it mattered most. Meanwhile, Cummins emerged as an inspirational leader for Sunrisers, showcasing his prowess as one of the finest captains in contemporary cricket.

Hyderabad secured their spot in their third IPL final by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs in the last qualifier in Chennai. However, this victory followed a crushing eight-wicket loss to Kolkata in the initial playoff in Ahmedabad.

SRH's sole IPL title victory came in 2016 under the leadership of another Australian, David Warner, whom Cummins seeks to emulate.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer's captaincy has garnered praise this season for its composed demeanor. Additionally, the return of Gautam Gambhir to the KKR fold as a mentor has revitalized the team, with strategic decisions such as promoting Sunil Narine to the opening slot and configuring a flexible batting lineup that adapts to various conditions, as evidenced by KKR's journey to the final with just three losses along the way.
