Digital Desk: The Income Tax (IT) Department's investigators carried out a search operation at the premises of a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Noida, where officials found cash worth hundreds of crores, as per reports.
According to reports, soon after the IT officials carried out the raid in the house of the former IPS officer in Sector-50, the team found several cash notes in the denominations of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 at the basement of the building. However, the agency has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
The former IPS officer, reportedly, who runs a firm from the basement, is said to be a close friend of the Samajwadi Party.
In another IT raid, officials from the IT department raided various places in Varanasi and Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. In addition, the Income Tax Department searched a number of jewellers' sites after obtaining certain intelligence inputs, and teams were formed to investigate the matter.
According to reports, IT officials ordered all teams to commence raids in Varanasi and Jaunpur after suspecting that some jewellers were pumping Hawala money into the Assembly elections.
The officials also compiled a list of jewellers who allegedly assisted people with Hawala money. According to officials, the money was allegedly made available for the upcoming Assembly election.
