Students, led by the Muslim Students Federation and the Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India, voiced resistance...

Digital Desk: Protests erupted at Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia University following the notification of Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) rules by the Central government. Delhi Police deployed a significant number of personnel to maintain order on the campus.

Students, led by the Muslim Students Federation and the Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India, voiced resistance, raising slogans against the Modi government and Delhi Police.

To prevent agitation, heightened security measures were implemented around the Jamia campus, as stated by acting vice chancellor Eqbal Hussain. He emphasised that no protests related to CAA would be permitted near the campus. Students gathered with posters, expressing dissent against CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

During the 2019–20 anti-CAA protests, the police entered the campus, resulting in injuries to several students amid clashes. The Citizenship Amendment Act aims to grant citizenship to non-Muslim refugees persecuted on religious grounds in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

The opposition contends the law is divisive and discriminates against Muslims, while the government asserts it won't revoke anyone's citizenship. The opposition also questions the timing of the rule announcement. The situation remains tense, with security measures in place to prevent further unrest.
