Digital Desk: A dramatic and disturbing incident unfolded in , Kahilipara, where a widowed woman and her two children were forced to sit outside their own home from morning until night, after being allegedly thrown out by her father-in-law, Bhubaneswar Deka, after  the death of her husband.

The woman had  return to Guwahati from Baihata Chariali,  after performing the last rites of her late husband. She discovered that her father-in-law had forcefully taken over the house,  furthermore even bringing  another woman into the house, an action that caused outrage among local residents.

On the night of the incident, Bhubaneswar Deka allegedly refused to open the gate, leading locals to break the grill and door in an attempt to enter. Deka then attacked the mob with a sharp  object and nearly bit some residents in the confusion.

Although the lady has made several complaints at the Dispur Police Stations, the police are said to have done little to act on the matter. Only after repeated calls by locals and journalists did the Police arrive hours later and took the father in law into custody.

The  widowed lady lady, made a shocking allegation against her father-in-law, that her father-in-law had made obscene proposals to her after her husband's death. Upon her refusal, he evicted her from the house.

Even after police detained the father in law , locals alleged that a young woman remained inside the house, and Deka left a latch at the door, making it impossible for Sabita to re-enter.

The incident has raised serious questions about women’s safety.
