"I'd want to congratulate UNESCO for bestowing the ICH designation on Durga Puja. Our celebrations have began one month in advance as of today. I invite everyone from all walks of life to attend the event, and I appreciate everyone who is watching it from across the world "She said this when kicking off the rally.

Before the event, Banerjee hailed Durga Puja as a Bengali feeling that connects people beyond "parochial divides."

"The emotion of Durga Puja transcends geographic boundaries and unites people. It combines the beauty of art with spirituality. We appreciate UNESCO for honouring everyone's labour of love by designating Durga Puja as an Intangible Cultural Heritage and for this recognition "Tweeted Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee is scheduled to hand over an earthen idol of Goddess Durga to UNESCO representatives in the final programme on Red Road.

At least 1,200 representatives of prominent Durga Pujas from Salt Lake, Howrah, and Kolkata participated in the protest while dressed in traditional Bengali attire. Participants might be seen dancing, singing puja songs, and playing the 'dhak' and flute. In other districts, similar rallies were also organised.
