Digital Desk: Droupadi Murmu of the NDA is running for president against Yashwant Sinha of the opposition. The probabilities are in Murmu's favour because she suddenly garnered backing from groups like the Shiv Sena and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, something she never expected. Biju Janata Dal and YSR Congress Party had already backed her.

Following the withdrawal of Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah, and Mahatma Gandhi's grandson, Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the opposition field was narrowed down to Yashwant Sinha, a former cabinet minister. He appealed to BJP lawmakers on Saturday, pleading with them to support him.

Through an electoral college made up of representatives from all 50 states and the union territories' legislative assembly as well as members of both chambers of parliament, the president is indirectly elected. The nominees are not allowed to cast ballots.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, a congressman and former prime minister, voted in the presidential election. He is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam.
