Digital Desk: Serious questions are being raised over the Road Underpass Project under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) at Maligaon.  Citizens wonder whether the department has fallen asleep at its duties because the underpass is abandoned and misused

Initially constructed near Kamakhya Railway Station to ease congestion at the railway crossing, the project was completed in 2023 and officially inaugurated in 2024. However, shockingly ,  it remained open only two months, then was closed down without warning. It was built, at the cost of  8 crore rupees, the closure has sparked widespread suspicion of mismanagement or even deep-rooted corruption.

More alarmingly, the deserted underpass has reportedly turned into a hotspot for substance abuse, especially among children as young as 13 or 14. Local residents claim that the site has now become a gathering place for drug users, raising concerns over public safety and youth welfare.

Instead of serving the public, this expensive infrastructure seems to be benefiting no one — except perhaps those with questionable intentions. The big question remains: when will the underpass be reopened for public use, and will the railway authorities finally wake up from their slumber?
