The murder came to light after the victim's friends noticed the WhatsApp status of the accused...

Digital Desk: A 20-year-old nursing student was allegedly killed by her lover at a hotel in Chennai. The boyfriend then shared a picture of the dead body on his WhatsApp story, officials stated on Saturday.

The murder came to light after the victim's friends noticed the WhatsApp status of the accused who have been identified as Ashiq.

After the friends alerted the police, the officials found her dead in a hotel room where the duo was staying.

According to the authorities, the young woman was a second-year nursing student who had been dating the accused for five years. They had been staying together since they rented a room in the city.

The victim's friends inquired about her after she skipped three days of college lectures and learned that her lover Ashiq had traveled to Chennai, reserved a hotel room, and brought her along.

They were startled, though, to see that Ashiq's WhatsApp status was a photo of the deceased woman.

After initiating a search, Chennai Police found the body in a private hotel. In order to locate Ashiq, the team additionally reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding region.

The accused allegedly admitted to the crime during questioning and claimed that the woman had argued with him over having a connection with another woman. This enraged Ashiq, who used his t-shirt to choke her to death.

The duo even had a baby in their teens that they had given up for adoption, claimed police officials.
