A young man, identified as Umar Farooq, was subjected to a brutal form of punishment after being accused of stealing a chicken on Thursday.
He was tied to an electric pole with his hands restrained and beaten.
Eyewitnesses described the harrowing scene as the young man screamed for help during the assault.
The group of individuals who detained him took justice into their own hands, inflicting physical violence before the matter was brought to the attention of authorities.
Some concerned locals informed the Lahorighat police station about the incident.
Police promptly arrived at the location, rescued Umar Farooq from the mob, and transported him to the station for further questioning regarding the allegations.
