Digital Desk: The tragic death of an infant due to alleged negligence at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has barely faded from public memory, and now another alarming case has emerged in Chandrapur.

This time, Puja Rai, a student from Chandrapur is battling for her life due to alleged medical malpractice at GMCH.

Puja is a Higher Secondary First Year student at Mayong Minerva Academy and the daughter of Amrit Rai from Digarumukh, Chandrapur.

On June 2, Puja was on her way to college when she was struck by a vehicle, resulting in a fractured leg. Her family admitted her to GMCH for treatment, where surgery was performed on June 11.

However, complications arose post-surgery when the lower part of her leg began developing gangrene, leading to decaying flesh. Further consultations revealed that a nerve in her leg had been damaged during treatment.

After being discharged with a few prescribed medications, Puja’s condition continued to deteriorate.

Her family now alleges that improper treatment at GMCH has left her at risk of losing her leg. Financially constrained, they are unable to seek advanced treatment elsewhere.

Puja has now appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeking urgent medical intervention to save her leg and demanding accountability from the GMCH doctors allegedly responsible for the negligence.
