Digital Desk: On Friday, NEET aspirant students from Manipur organised a sit-in protest in Keishampat, Imphal, demanding that the government reverse the internet ban immediately and that justice be served for the deaths of two students.

The rally was organised jointly by six major student organisations as part of the ongoing protests against the Manipur government over the killing of two teenage students by Kuki miscreants and the use of police personnel against demonstrators in the Imphal district in recent days.

"Stop the abusive crackdown on unarmed students" and "Kuki terrorist root out" were written on the protest site's banners. Protesters brandished signs that read, "We want the freedom to protest against injustice," "No to mental harassment," and "Implement NRC immediately."

Looking on the other side of the rally, a female student activist stated that the internet shutdown has generated anxiety among students attempting to take the upcoming NEET examinations.

In light of the current law and order crisis, the state government has put a ban on internet use until October 1.

The six student organisations have requested immediate justice for the students, Phijam Hemanjint and Hijam Linthoingambi, who were ruthlessly murdered by Kuki militants in the southern region of Manipur in the first week of July.

The six students’ bodies who have demanded early justice are the Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK), and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS).

Over 200 student protesters were injured, some critically, during the security crackdown.
