Digital Desk: A joint team of Assam Rifles (AR) and Mizoram Police seized a large number of Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 167.86 crore near the Myanmar border in Champhai district, according to an Assam Rifles officer.

A huge consignment of 5,05,000 tablets (55.80 kg) of Methamphetamine, a party drug, was seized from the possession of a woman peddler during an operation carried out jointly by Serchhip battalion of Assam Rifles and state police at Melbuk village on Friday, the officer said.

"This is the largest drug haul ever made in Mizoram in a single operation," he said.

According to the officer, the Assam Rifles have seized drugs worth more than Rs 200 crore in the last three years.

Based on specific information, the joint team stopped a vehicle in the village and seized 55.80 kg of Methamphetamine tablets from the peddler, he said.

According to the officer, the contraband worth Rs 167.86 crore was hidden in various compartments of the vehicle.

On Saturday, both the accused and the seized contraband were turned over to the Zokhawthar police station for further investigation and legal proceedings, he said.

According to the officer, methamphetamine tablet smuggling is currently a major source of concern in Mizoram, particularly along the India-Myanmar border.
