Aizawl: Mizoram is facing a severe crisis in the procurement of essential items due to the blockade along the border due to security reasons.

Mizoram Health Minister R Lalthangliana claimed on Sunday that medical supplies, including Covid-19 test kits, were being blocked from entering the state of Assam due to the imposition of the blockade in the Barak Valley region following the border dispute.

The essential route NH-306, through which supplies and trade take place between the two states has been blocked by the Assam Government due to "security reasons". To overcome this issue, landlocked Mizoram has airlifted around 3.7 tons of cargo from Silchar Airport to Mizoram.

As per sources, a SpiceXpress (cargo division of SpiceJet) flight arrived from Kolkata and landed at Silchar airport at 08:15 am carrying supplies for the state before departing for Aizawl at 10:00 am. Sources close to the development informed that supplies were being airlifted from both Kolkata and Silchar airport to deliver in Mizoram. However, it is still not clear what supplies were being airlifted into Mizoram.

It may be mentioned here that, State Minister Ashok Singhal had stated earlier that no economic blockade has been initiated by the State Government of Assam.
