Digital Desk: An Important move made by the former state chief secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo by joining the Congress party before the Mizoram state assembly elections.

In addition to Chuaungo, senior journalist Lalremruata Renthlei and well-known Mizoram television host Vanneihthanga Vanchhawng joined the Congress on Tuesday, confirms sources.

The 40-member Mizoram legislative parliament will be chosen in elections later this year, it should be noted.

Lalnunmawia Chuaungo, an IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre and the 1987 class, retired in October 2021 after serving as the state's chief secretary. To enter politics, he recently left his position as chief information commissioner (CIC), which he was nominated to fill.

According to Chuaungo, he entered politics to strive for the well-being of the populace and Mizoram.
