Digital Desk: Mihir Shah, the primary suspect in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, was remanded to judicial custody until July 30 following a court decision on Tuesday.

The tragic incident occurred on July 7 when a BMW, driven by Mihir Shah, collided with a scooter carrying 40-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and her husband Pradeep on Worli's busy Anni Besant Road at approximately 5:30 am. Kaveri Nakhwa lost her life in the accident.

After evading authorities, Mihir Shah was apprehended two days later in Virar, Palghar district. Initially, he was placed in police custody until July 16 by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S P Bhosale at Sewri court. On July 16, the court decided to extend his custody to judicial custody for 14 days.

According to police reports, the BMW dragged Kaveri Nakhwa for about 1.5 kilometers before Mihir Shah halted, switched places with his driver Rajrishi Bidawat, and escaped in another vehicle. Sadly, during the incident, the vehicle also ran over her while reversing.

The investigation has led to charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

Mihir Shah's father, Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) functionary in Palghar district, was implicated in helping his son evade capture after the incident. Although initially arrested, Rajesh Shah was granted bail the following day and subsequently removed from his leadership position within the Shiv Sena.

Additionally, Rajrishi Bidawat, the family chauffeur, was arrested and, on July 11, was also remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the court.
