Digital Desk: The NSCN-U faction in Nagaland has impeached its top leader, N Kitovi Zhimomi, citing allegations of authoritarian behaviour, financial mismanagement, incompetence, and a lack of organisational focus, the Hindustan Times reports.
The decision was made during an emergency meeting at the NSCN-U designated camp in Khehoyi. Zhimomi, who also serves as the convenor of the working committee of a conglomerate of seven Naga national political groups (NNPGs), has been replaced by Alezo Venuh, who previously held the position of "envoy to the collective leadership."
Venuh will officially assume office in a ceremony at Khehoyi on Monday. While Zhimomi's future in Naga politics remains uncertain, there are speculations that he might join an existing group or form a new one with his loyalists, given his long-standing involvement in the Naga nationalist movement since the 1980s.
The impact of Zhimomi's impeachment on the ongoing peace process remains unclear, although it's noted that the NNPGs have the authority to appoint another leader to replace Zhimomi as the convenor of the working committee. It's worth mentioning that Venuh, the new NSCN-U leader, has also been serving as a coordinator under the NNPGs panel.
