Digital Desk: Putting an end to the discussion about his possible release, former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Friday that he will be released from jail on April 1, Saturday. Sidhu has been lodged in jail for a 1988 road rage case. Reportedly, Sidhu will be released early due to his good behaviour.

"This is to inform everyone that Sardar Navjot Singh Sidhu will be released from Patiala Jail tomorrow. (As informed by the concerned authorities)," he said in a tweet.

The cricketer-turned-politician will be released from the Patiala jail tomorrow, as he nears the end of his one-year rigorous imprisonment sentenced by the Supreme Court in a 1988 road rage case.

Sidhu was imprisoned on May 20 of last year after surrendering to a Patiala court and receiving a one-year rigorous imprisonment term from the Supreme Court in the case.

In 1988, Navjot Singh Sidhu had been charged with being involved in a road rage incident. The incident involves the death of a Patiala resident Gurnam Singh in December 1988 following an assault by Sidhu and a friend.

On December 27, 1988, Sidhu and Rupinder Singh Sandhu reportedly parked their Gypsy in the middle of the road near the Sheranwala Gate crossing in Patiala. When Gurnam Singh, 65, arrived in a car, he requested that they move aside. Following this, Singh was beaten by Sidhu.

Then Singh was beaten by Sidhu. He also reportedly took Singh's car keys before fleeing, preventing him from seeking medical help.
