According to Rajeev Mehta, Neeraj Chopra is not fit because of getting injured in the World Athletic Championship finals.

Digital Desk: Neeraj Chopra, the gold medalist for India at the Olympics, won't be attending the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, according to a report from a news agency on July 26 and cited by IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta.

Mehta claimed Neeraj Chopra is unfit due to an injury sustained during the World Athletic Championship finals.

Neeraj Chopra won't compete in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. It is because he was hurt at the World Athletic Championship finals; thus, he is not healthy, said Rajeev Mehta.

At the World Athletics Championships, Chopra finished in second place with a historic silver medal in the men's javelin final with a throw of 88.13 meters.

Neeraj mentioned after claiming the silver medal, "Even the fourth throw, in my opinion, should have been made farther. I then felt something on my thigh and could not give the next two tasks my full attention. So I was fastened (on the thigh). Because my body is still heated from the incident, I will know the current state in the morning. I sincerely hope there won't be any problems with the future Commonwealth Games events."

Chopra won India's first Olympic gold medal in Tokyo last year. He is only the second Indian to win an Olympic individual gold medal, following shooter Abhinav Bindra in the 2008 Beijing Games.

His absence will be a major setback to Team India at the upcoming Commonwealth Games, as Chopra was one of India's strongest contenders for a gold medal. He was scheduled to compete against Peters again at the Commonwealth Games, but he will now miss the opportunity to defend his title this year.

Birmingham will host the 2022 Commonwealth Games from July 28 to August 8.
