Digital Desk: Today, Sudan Gurung, Nepal’s Home Minister, resigned from his post, citing moral responsibility and the need to ensure a fair investigation into concerns surrounding his financial holdings.

In a Facebook post announcing his resignation, Gurung said he had taken public criticism seriously and chose to step down to uphold ethical standards in public life. He stated that he had been performing his duties with honesty since 26th March, 2026, but recent questions and concerns raised by citizens regarding his shares and related matters prompted his decision.

Emphasising the importance of integrity, Gurung said public trust must take precedence over any position. He noted that growing public demand, especially among younger generations, for transparency, accountability, and good governance reflects the need for clean public life and responsible leadership.

Referring to Nepal’s political history and sacrifices, he added that accountability becomes essential when questions arise against a government built on struggle and sacrifice. Gurung said resigning would help ensure transparency and prevent any conflict of interest during the investigation.

He also urged citizens, the media, and the youth to remain committed to truth, honesty, and accountability, stressing that meaningful change requires collective responsibility and moral courage.

Meanwhile, earlier on 9th April , Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah dismissed Deepak Kumar Sah, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, on disciplinary grounds following a recommendation from his party. According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Sah was removed for breaching the party’s code of conduct.

A commission report found that Sah had misused his office to retain his wife, Junu Shrestha, as a member of the Health Insurance Board, a position that had remained largely inactive. The report recommended action, leading to his removal.
