Digital Desk: On Tuesday night Guwahati police forced a notoriously criminal man to seek medical care after injuring him through gunfire during his attempted escape and battle to evade arrest. The suspect, identified as Jewel Khan took a woman's bag in Bonphul Nagar but he failed to run away successfully. The police responded and intercepted Khan due to the incident. The shooting developed after officers used force following his reported attempt to use sharp weapons against arrest.
The police immediately transported Khan to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for medical treatment. Khan has become a habitual offender who has committed various thefts like stealing vehicles and chains according to Mrinal Deka who serves as Deputy Commissioner of Police (East). The police found two stolen ATM cards and an antique scooter during their raid at Khan's home located in Navjyoti Path, Sijubari. Khan fled his detention through the bathroom window.
The police conducted a search operation leading to an encounter in the Hatigaon area. The police shot at him after he attempted to attack an officer . Official records show that Khan's crimes have made him commonly known to local police departments.
