Pakistani officials have visited many places where the team is set to play in World Cup games in recent weeks to inspect security measures...

Digital Desk: The Pakistani government decided to send its cricket team to India this year in order to compete in the ODI World Cup. Over the past ten years, the close neighbors, which share fraught relations, have only faced off in multi-team events at neutral venues.

The Press Release also said that the cricket board is worried about the team's safety because of the tense relationship between the countries.

"Pakistan has consistently maintained that sports should not be mixed with politics. As a result, it decided to send a cricket team to India in order to compete in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023, according to a statement released on Sunday by the Foreign Office.

Interestingly, the ODI World Cup succeeds the Asia Cup, which, originally, was scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan. However, Sri Lanka was chosen as one of the co-hosts for the continental tournament, and all of India's games were scheduled there as a result of the BCCI's refusal to send the Indian team to the country. The foreign ministry made sure to remind India of the act in its statement.

"Pakistan’s decision shows its constructive and responsible approach vis-à-vis India’s intransigent attitude, as the latter had refused to send its Cricket Team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup," the statement further read.

Pakistani officials have visited many places where the team is set to play in World Cup games in recent weeks to inspect security measures. After the 2016 T20 World Cup, this will be the first time a Pakistan men's team will travel to India. The last bilateral series Pakistan played took place between December 2012 and January 2013, which also happened to be the final series between the two nations. Since then, only international (World Cup, Champions Trophy) and continental (Asia Cup) competitions have seen both countries play each other.
