Digital Desk: A wave of panic swept through Guwahati’s bustling G.S. Road today when a pickpocket was caught red-handed while attempting to flee after stealing Rs 55,000 in cash from a passenger on a city bus.


Abdul Ali of Panjabari who happens to be the accused was caught at a bus-stop by local people. , when Abdul was on his way to Bhangagarh. The crowd tied him to an electric pole and beat him up before handing him to the police.


According  to reports, it is stated that the victim had come to Guwahati  from Bihpuria , Lakhimpur district for an eye treatment at a local hospital. The incident when the victim was travelling by city bus in the middle of the city. The pickpocketer, took the bag containing ₹55,000 in cash from the unsuspecting passenger.


The incident occurred in the Christian Basti area, one of the busiest parts of the city. Grateful to the prompt action of alert passengers and bystanders, the thief was caught immediately.

The Dispur Police quickly arrived at the scene and arrested Abdul Ali. A police case has been registered now with the Dispur Police Station and a probe is under process.


This incident highlights the increasing problem of pickpocketing on Guwahati’s public transport, especially city buses. Commuters are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their belongings while traveling.
