Digital Desk: Today marks Independence Day, a day of nationwide celebration filled with great enthusiasm. A wave of patriotism has risen today across India. On this historic day in 1947, India achieved independence from British rule.


Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi participated in the Independence Day celebrations in Hojai. However, an unfortunate incident occurred at the event. A pickpocket stole a journalist's purse containing Rs 15,000 in cash along with identification documents.


The victim, Sanjay Dey, a journalist from the print media, fell prey to the thief. The incident took place at Netaji Corner in Hojai Old Market during Gaurav Gogoi's flag-hoisting ceremony and a tricolour rally. Over five thousand people had gathered at the location.


Taking advantage of the crowd, the thief managed to steal the journalist's belongings. The journalist has since filed a report regarding the incident at Hojai police station.
