Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to formally open the central government's seat of power...

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to formally inaugurate India's new Parliament building, the seat of the federal government, on May 28. Though official confirmation has not yet been obtained, sources close to the situation believe the inauguration is slated for the end of May.

Earlier rumours stated that the massive inauguration would take place on May 26, the date when Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the oath of office in 2014.

The report states that the new 4-storey facility will house 1,224 MPs and is built on 64,500 square metres as part of the Central Vista Development Project. The Lok Sabha Hall can hold 888 MPs, while the Rajya Sabha Hall can hold 384.

The construction of the triangular-shaped layout began on January 15, 2021, and was scheduled to be completed in August 2022. Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar, and Karma Dwar are the names of the three main gates of the Rs 970 crore Parliament building.

According to insiders, the facility will feature separate entrances for MPs, VIPs, and guests. Another centrepiece of the structure is the Constitution Hall, which was designed to honour the country's democratic tradition. A replica of India's original Constitution is said to have been preserved in the hall.

Portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, and other Indian prime leaders will be displayed in the new Parliament building. A portrait of polymath Kautilya, as well as a model of Konark's Sun Temple's wheel, is said to have been erected in the building.

Though the ceremonial inauguration is planned soon, the following monsoon session is unlikely to be held in the new Sansad building. According to some sources, the administration may consider organising a gathering of Speakers from G20 Parliaments in the new facility later this year.
