Kovind praised Murmu and noted that the nation would gain from her leadership.

Digital Desk: President Ram Nath Kovind urged political parties to put aside their differences and act in the best interests of the nation on Saturday.

In his farewell speech to lawmakers at Parliament's Central Hall, Kovind emphasized the significance of peace and harmony. He said people have the right to protest and exert pressure to further their aims, but their strategies must be Gandhian.

His remarks take on significance at a time when the Opposition's protests over a number of issues have repeatedly caused parliamentary proceedings to be interrupted.

Kovind claimed that he had always seen himself as a member of the greater family, which also included the lawmakers.

Like any family, they would occasionally disagree, but he emphasized that they should work together for the greater sake of the nation.

The ceremony to bid farewell to the departing President, whose tenure expires on Sunday, also included participation from Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla.

The 15th President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will take the oath of office on Monday. She will hold the nation's highest constitutional position for the first time ever by a member of a tribe.

Kovind praised Murmu and noted that the nation would gain from her leadership.

It should be noted that he stated that he will be eternally grateful to the people of this country for giving him the opportunity to serve as President.
