The president's speech began at 7 o'clock on the full All India Radio (AIR) network and was televised on all Doordarshan channels in Hindi before switching to English.

Digital Desk: In her first speech to the nation on the eve of the 76th Independence Day, newly elected President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday expressed her warmest greetings in advance to all Indians.

Additionally, she paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the 1947 division. The Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was officially declared on August 14 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.

"On the eve of the 76th Independence Day, I send my warmest greetings to all Indians who reside in India and abroad. I'm honoured to speak to you on this historic occasion. India has been a sovereign country for 75 years. Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is held on August 14 in order to encourage social harmony, unity, and individual emancipation. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the day we resolved to break free from the control of colonial authorities and change the course of our destiny. We all pay tribute to the men and women who made huge sacrifices so that we might live in a free India as we commemorate the anniversary of that day "President Murmu stated in her speech to the country.

"The address will first be broadcast in Hindi and English on Doordarshan, and then it will be broadcast in regional languages on regional Doordarshan networks. At 9.30 p.m., AIR will broadcast regional language versions on each of its regional networks "The declaration read.

The 64 year old Murmu, a tribal hailing from Odisha, took oath as the 15th president on July 25.
