Digital Desk: Arjun Tendulkar, the son of great Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, made his IPL debut on Sunday against Kolkata Knight Riders, putting an end to the long wait. This father-son duo made history by becoming the first father-son pair to play in the IPL, both for the Mumbai Indians. Sachin made his last appearance in the league in 2013.
Arjun was signed in an auction before the 2021 season by the Mumbai Indians for a base fee of INR 20 lakhs. A year later, Arjun drew two bids in the major auction for the 2022 season, with Gujarat Titans also raising the paddle before returning to MI for INR 30 lakhs. Despite being on the team for several seasons, he did not receive his first cap until Sunday, April 16, 2023.
Arjun was spotted having an intense talk with his father Sachin before the toss, who has long been involved with the team, first as a player and now as a mentor. Later, Sachin was joined by regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who was not picked in the first XI for the encounter against KKR due to a stomach virus, as described by stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav.
