In its weekly meeting, the Assam Cabinet approved the Vehicle Scrappage Policy of Assam, 2022.

Digital Desk: The Assam Cabinet announced its decision on Tuesday to scrap old vehicles.

This decision was made during a weekly state cabinet meeting on Tuesday, which was presided over by state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Although not much was revealed immediately, the policy is said to ensure proper dismantling and scrapping of End of Life Vehicle operations.

It was implemented to ensure the effective implementation of the RVSF Registration and Functions Policy to reduce vehicular pollution and phase out unfit and polluting vehicles.

It is also expected to help promote environmentally friendly vehicle scrap recycling.

The cabinet also stated that the State Government would launch a One-Time-Settlement scheme for a set period in which owners will be given tax waivers of up to 75% on their outstanding/arrear dues (if any) on the voluntary offer of their vehicles to RVSF.

However, more information on the policy, including which vehicles will be covered, is still pending.
